Ljubljana

"Šentvid" is a public preschool established by the City of Liubliana Municipality.
It provides preschool education and care for children aged between 1 and 6 years old. The programme is based on the national curriculum for preschools.
There are about 650 children in our preschool in 36 groups in 5 different locations in the northern area of Ljubljana.

All kindergarten units offer all-day programs, which last up to 9 hours and include children from the age of one until primary school age. Depending on the children’s developmental characteristics, there are two main age groups: 1 to 3-year-olds and 3 to 6-year-olds.

Children can be grouped in same or mixed-age classes, depending on their needs and conditions in the preschool. Within the framework of the basic program according to the pre-school curriculum, we are offering various activities throughout the year: organizing celebrations, sports activities, field trips, and visits to galleries, museums and theatres. Also, various artists visit the nursery.
Periodically firefighters, police officers and other service members visit the nursery to teach the children about the health, safety and life of the surrounding community.

We take part in projects that connect nurseries across the country, including ecological projects, sports programs for children and pre-reading programs in cooperation with the local library.
We offer some extra activities, e.g. a children’s choir, an art workshop and exercise in pairs for parents and children.

For older children, we organize winter skiing, summer seaside holidays and camps in the countryside or on farms.
There are afternoon sports and dance activities, which are conducted by suitably qualified outsiders.

Some of the projects we initiated and participated in:
- ECO project - EKO kindergarten as a way of life;
- Erasmus +, Etwinning – valid eTwinning school label, several European quality labels, eTwinning national prize;
- Khetaun (Total): a crucial step toward the integration of Roma children - Erasmus + in collaboration with the Pedagogical Institute;
- “Garden in kindergarten”;
- “School for Parents”;
- “A bridge between the arts”;
- “Light and lightroom (science)”;
- “Forest kindergarten”.
